Ashneer Grover–The Elizabeth Holmes Of India

Shark Tank India season 1, was both Fascinating and Dramatic, the Magnus opus which had Love, Compassion, drama, Sympathy, patriotism etc, it wasn’t just a reality show that deals with entrepreneurs presenting there business ideas to a diverse set of investors, but a spiced up family drama where the wannabe brides were trying to impress the grooms family members, with a tadka of IIM.

Anupam Mittal reminded me more than once of the elderly Tauji, who would be silenced by the other aggressive family members, his tag line “Yaar koi mujhe bhi to bolne do”.

Namita Thaper, the vivacious diva, the Badi Bhabhi of the family, would always ensure to encourage the contestants, but mostly beg herself out of the deals.

Aman Verma : The Chota Devar, the daredevil, who would show his flamboyance more than once in every episode, his tag line “Brand to bana denge hum”.

Ashneer Grover: The evil uncle or chacha, he would abuse at will, would love to demean the bride and her family, he was like the Gulshan Grover of 80s and 90s, his tag line “Sab Dogla Pan hai” and “Band Ker de tera business”.

Vineeta Singh : The chooti bahu (younger daughter in law), too talkative, always smiling and empathetic while bowing out of a deal, she had no particular tag line.

The spiced up reality show caught the imagination of the entire country, business ideas became dinner discussions in the average Indian households, we saw young men and women from marginalised sections of the society, taking  lead in identifying the problems and putting forth the solution, we saw inventors showcasing painless or no needle blood sugar diagnostic machine, we also saw portable ecg machine which has the potential of saving many lives, and we also saw the humble son of a farmer, hailing from the region which has thousands of agrarians committing suicide every year, coming up with a jugad to make the excruciating work of the farmers easy.

The judges became the instant gods among the average youngsters, there success stories, there struggle and there perseverance made them god like for the average Indian youth, Aman Gupta, the candid and rusty Millionaire, Ashneer Grover the biggest shark in the tank, was brutally honest and calculative, Namita Thaper, very charming but had impressive business acumen, Anupam Mittal had tons of experience and he is probably one of the oldest angle investor in the country. The show topped the TRP charts in no time.

And then came the infamous Ashneer Grover call with the hapless Kotak Bank employee, it shocked me like many loyal Sharktank viewers, it exposed the GOD syndrome pathogen Grover was carrying in his head, in fact it was so dominant that it had simply annihilated the persona of the young billionaire, when I heard Ashneer abusing, I felt disgusted and wondered how a shallow man like him came at the helms of one of India’s leading fintech companies!

The infamous but viral phone call then opened the can of worms, exposed the rotting underbelly of one of the leading Fintech companies of the country, what I understood was that Ashneer and his wife were robbing investors of there money to finance there extravagant lifestyle, there luxury cars and abroad vacations, even the makeup stuff of Madhuri Jain was billed to the company.

Ashneer had stark resemblance with Elizabeth Holmes, slightly miniaturised or probably was in the making of it, a person with compromised morality knows no dearth and can sink the entire ecosystem of budding entrepreneurs for his personal gains, luckily he was caught before he could inflict fatal blow on the fragile ecosystem, or even worse getting away with it, creating a narrative of a system where the fraud and embezzlement becomes a norm and acceptable evil.

Once the rot was out in the open, Ashneer was sent on a forced leave, his wife was sacked, It was meteoric fall of the demigod of the startup world of India, it broke many hearts but it raise some very important questions:

  • How can, in todays world, RBI and GOI can leave the fintech companies unchecked and unsupervised?
  • With the tons of customer data, including personal data of the millions of users, is there a mechanism to check the likes of Ashneer from profiting from it? Or should they have an unchecked control over it?
  • How to save the the image of the Ernest entrepreneurs from taking a hit because of the deeds of a bad unicorns like Ashneer grover?

These are some very important questions which need to be answered before the budding and booming atmosphere of Indian Startup world takes a permanent Hit…

10 ways to become more intuitive

Do you hear yourself often, ‘only if I were more intuitive’? Especially when you are at crossroads of life, where you do not know where to go. Or during times of trouble, when you are desperately looking for an answer but your inner voice seems to be as unresponsive as a dormant volcano.

Yet, intuition is not just a torchlight in the darkness. It is a tool that can help make better decisions at work and in relationships. It can also help you create a life that is uninfluenced by your and society’s prejudices and biases.

Fortunately enough, there are concrete ways to enhance the subtle power of intuition.

 Still the mind

We all have intuitive abilities. We all have that tiny voice that tries to guide us through life. However, the world fills our head with so many thoughts that we eventually lose the habit of listening to that voice. A daily meditation practice is a way to still your mind every day. When you silence your thoughts every day, you are able to listen to your inner voice with more clarity and ease.

Acknowledge the limitation of logic

Our logic depends on the knowledge that we perceive from our senses. This makes our knowledge limited. Our logic cannot be beyond what we know. Thus, logic and knowledge are intertwined in the same pool. When we recognize the universe and the truth are beyond that, we give a chance to our intuition.

Practice Sun Salutations

Surya Namaskar or Sun Salutations are a set of 12 yoga postures. Its regular practice affects a mass of nerves in your stomach called the solar plexus that directly influences your intuitive abilities.

Feel contented

Whether we like it or not, desires bring mental noise and restlessness which don’t allow intuition to shine forth. Simply because this subtle power thrives on silence. Feeling contented is one way to satiate restlessness and cut unnecessary noise. You may wonder, how is it possible to feel content just like that? According to Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, the answer is being of service. As Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar says, “When a few people get comfort and relief because of you, then the happiness and contentment that you experience cannot be expressed in words.”

Tend to your gut health

Numerous studies have shown the connection between the gut and the brain. A healthy gut promotes intuition, wisdom, and the feeling of positivity. You can strengthen your gut by reducing stress and supplementing your diet with good bacteria. You can minimize stress from your life with yoga, meditation, proper sleep and diet.

Pay attention

Be more observant of the world around you and within you (the mind-body complex). As you pay more attention, your mind will be more rooted in the present and mental noise will reduce. Intuition thrives on the practice of attention and quiet.

Engage in right-brain activity

While the left-brain is involved in analysis and logical thinking, the right-brain promotes intuitive thinking and creativity. As the left side of the brain promotes thoughts, it can create noise when overactive. To silence the left side of your brain and activate the right side, you can get involved in creative pursuits and listen to music regularly or especially when you find yourself overthinking.

Slow down

If you feel tired or burnt out, your intuition is likely to weaken. On the other hand, a refreshed mind is the perfect home to intuition. To slow down and rejuvenate, get away from the world, and relax for a while. Go on a sabbatical, a retreat, an unplanned holiday, or spend time with nature. A treat to your soul is fuel to your intuition.

Focus on your values
Our minds are sensitive beings of their own. They get muddled in the world and get trapped in a vicious cycle of negativity. Negative thoughts clog our intuition. Yet, a focus on values like kindness, forgiveness, contentment helps one break the cycle of negativity. Keep a focus on these values and allow your intuition to blossom.

Be comfortable with your intuition
Many times, we ignore our intuition or run away because of the fear of the unknown. However, intuition is like a shy child. It will only blossom if you pay heed and allow it to blossom.

Self Care

Once upon a time, there was a cobbler who was famous for the elegant shoes that he used to make. He was also generous and kind hearted, helping anyone in need. He lived in a small village and he was the only talented cobbler in that village. He was responsible for repairing the shoes and making new shoes for everybody in that village. After some days, he noticed that his own shoes were torn but he was busy tending to the needs of the villagers and making exquisite shoes for some of the rich, getting a lot of praise in the process. He completely ignored the worn out shoes that he was wearing. Initially, there was no problem, but slowly there was a big hole in the sole of his shoes and it started becoming frail and torn. However he neglected the state of the torn shoes and kept on making footwear for others, feeling happy with the appreciation. He felt satisfied when you made free shoes for the people who did not have the means to afford it.
In due course of time, his tattered and worn out shoes started giving him painful blisters and he began walking with a limp, some of his customers started to worry about it, but he reassured them that it will get cured in a while. They continued to shower him with blessings and wishes for a selfless service and hard work. He was lauded for doing a fantastic job in spite of the boils, blisters and the limp.

After a few months, the blisters became extremely painful and the infection started spreading to the extent that he could no longer work. He could neither repair his shoes nor make or repair anyone else’s. He started regretting the gross neglect of his part as he lay on his bed tending to his wounds.
Does this story seem familiar to what many of us have done with our lives or what we have faced? This is a simple story which would have struck a chord with many of you to address an important issue this significant aspect of our life which we tend to ignore often is self-care and self- love.
In this self absorbed world, we tend to ignore the fact that our cup is not only half empty, it is almost empty. We spend years neglecting the poor state of our own half filled cup while tending to the needs of the people around us. Taking care of others gives us a sense of satisfaction and contentment. We often ignore ourselves and our own needs were trying to appease others.

If you do not look after yourself, after a while, the hollowness within you will make you incompetent to tend to the needs of others. Even with the best of your intentions, you won’t be able to radiate or share any happiness, or take care of the needs of anyone if youareempty from within. If one does not have time to care for themselves, then no one will.
This principle is applicable in the current global scenario where in we are under tremendous stress and pressure due to the ongoing pandemic. This is particularly in the case of frontline workers and all those who are impacted by the invisible monster, who have barely any time for self care and self grooming.

Food Nutrition facts

“Diet is the essential key to all successful healing. Without a proper balanced diet, the effectiveness of herbal treatment is very limited.

 Food as nutrition

My journey on lifestyle change began with understanding how food nutrition impact on body mind complex. Hence this area of food nutrition is very dear to my heart.I could talk forever on this birthday will attempt to stick on what I think is most important to understand.

Today we live in a world where nearly everyone is on one day or another. People talk about Carbs, calories ,fats ,proteins , restrictions, and good foods and bad foods. Diet books are best seller. Cooking shows are  more popular and yet more families are eating day outs. It was not so long ago when humans had an innateability to know what is good for them. People simply knew what to eat and how to prepare it. Thay did not have so much cerebral interpretation of basic  human needs. People naturally ate what was local seasonal available and what gave them proper nutrition for living

Being healthy is not a complicated. The body knows what to eat. It is the brain that makes mistakes. All you need to do is work on building a deep relationship with your body and it will tell you what it needs to function at its highest potential. It took a long time for me to understand the value of this last point. Today I am very much live by this principal. Once you have fostered this deep relationship with your body you can being you trust your body. So how do we foster this relationship.

We first need to accept that we have personal difference in anatomy, metabolism ,composition of  bodily fluids and cell structures . So we have highly individualistic nutrition needs. No no! that is not a go ahead to eat junk food. It is to re-emphasize  the need to build a deep relationship with your body. Our personal tested and preferences nature shape natural shapes and sizes blood type, metabolic rates , and genetic  background influence what foods will and wants nutrition us. One person is food is and other persons poison. That is why fad diets do not work in the long run.   They are not based on the reality that we all have different dietary needs. Yes a little experimenting and awareness is listing to our body will bring us the deep connection.

If you have any doubt on the connection then begin by accepting that your body is highly intelligent. You are hard never misses a beat. Even if you are going through some trauma your heart keeps pumping and your lungs keep breathing. Your body has involved insrincts to keep you alive and well. Just as a tree will always learn to words like humans and animals for that matter no instinctively  what food is good for them.

Do not ignore the signals your bodies are Constantly giving us. Dark circle around the eye is mostly a signal of exhaustion. Your body is telling you to slow down and take a rest. Constipation and bolting are mostly a sign of something you are eating ,  or that the way you are eating  it is in appropriate for you. I encourage you to listen to the signals and not wait until it become unbearable and you have to get on to meditation or in the surgical theatre.

You could keep a food more journal . Developing  that connection with your body you might to join things down things like every time I eat bread my stomach hurt or every time llentil Soup  I feel satisfied and see no negative of the effect. Certain combination of foods will give you gas , certain foods will prevent you from sleeping well, certain food will give you a clear mind.

Do remember that Help has to be a holistic. So when the body is giving you signals it does not have to be food nutrition that need adjustment. It could very very well be some time to do with your exercise routine or your mental state I.e., stress or chemicals in you are in external  environment that needs changing. That is why we are paying attention to getting the basics of lifestyle change read a book . Lifestyle change is what brings us health and happiness.

Now we can focus on the foundation of food nutrition through the actionable steps.  remember that the simple actions have huge impact. I have listed here the most impactful actions

Actionable steps

  1. keep a food – mood journal. This will assist you to foster the connection to your body.

Apply the 80–20 rule here 80% of the time eat clean and the other 20% eat food that is a little processed. Or maybe for You 90–10 rule work better.you decide build up slowly to words whatever you decide as you will fall of the band wagon.eating clean also promotes your connection with your body
  3. Eat home prepared meals. This way you know what is going into your body.also remember, no food testes like mom’s food. This  is because food cooked with love carries a different energy.
  4. Replace instead of cutting out. Step by steps as you eat more and more clean food, your cravings for those foods that you know are obviously bad for you will begin to fall away from your choice of food.if you start by cutting out bad food items which you have are craving for than you you are craving will increase and once again you will fall of the bandwagon.so focus on including more and more good foods rather than excluding bad foods.
  5. Eat less meat, dairy, sugar and chemicalize, artificial junk foods consume less coffee, alcohol, and tobacco. Yes we have do not want to take out. We would rather replace. However, most people who carry out this action step feel more energised and recover from illness faster.

Carrot juice with some ginger, apple and some lemon ( White rind included ) is my favourite. Give a boost of nutrients quickly into the blood. Keep a gap of half hour after before you consume any other food item.
  8. Experiment with whole grain legumes. E.g. beans, lentils, lupine, peas, and peanuts.
  9. Include fermented Foods. These are foods such as picked vegetables and yoghurt.

  15. Avoid refined processed sugars. This is the one and only time we Say avoid.
  16. Clean dairy. If you have dairy then swop  the very form forms where cows are grass fed . Dairy that  is free from antibiotics, growth hormones is animal by products, preservatives and  stabiliser. If you  prone to sinus issue or ear, nose and throat congestion, then this change over could resolve the issue.
  17. Oils for cooking. The oils we use have a huge impact on our body. Be aware of the effects of oil use for cooking. Use cold pressed oil. The safe and healthy oil or coconut oil and Olive Oil. I sometimes use ghee to cook. Ghee is my go to fat.
  18. Say a prayer of gratitude before meals. Prepare your body to receive the food by saying a prayer of blessings and gratitude for all the farmers, transporters, suppliers and all those that were responsible for the food on your plate. Imagine your body getting ready to receive the food that is currently sitting on your plate.
  19. Eat with awareness and chew your food well before swallowing. This allows the saliva in the mouth to do its work. In fact, the mouth is where digestion process begins. If you break down your food in your mouth already, then the remainder of the digestion process improves.
  20. Use a tongue scraper to clean tongue twice a day after brushing. It comes from the tradition of ayurveda. It makes you more thoughtful and authentic in your speech. It helps fight cavities, prevents bad breath, decreases cravings, enhances taste bud activities.
  21. Include food of all colours in each meal or daily or at least over a few days. The different colours represent different phytonutrients. This way you are ensuring that your body is getting all the phytonutrients it needs. As a child you wanted the crayon box with the most colours. You would not have dreamt of drawing a picture in drab neutral.

Five sample a single weekly detox would be to eat six meals of Khichdi dish in the week and six meals of lightly spiced  steamed vegetables in the week. Learn more about detoxing and find ways that suits you. Examples are dry fast, intermittent fast, juice fast, water only fast, fruit fast etc.
  23. Soak nuts and seeds and dried fruits overnight. By soaking nuts and seeds, you minimise or eliminate the nutritional inhabiters and other toxic substances as they are absorbed into the water. Without the inhibitors and toxic substances, The nutrients of the nuts and seeds are more readily available for absorption. Dried fruits can be drying on the body and soaking them counteract this.

1  Agree to disagree

Remember that everyone has a right to their opinion. in life you are not going to meet Only similar minded people .so you are bound to have some difference of opinions which some people. this is specifically true when you are working with difficult people but that’s okay gracefully, accept that there can be more than one point of view for any given situation. don’t demand compliance and don’t try to change or convince anyone .it usually only backfires.

PERFECT PEACE

In the external universe there is ceaseless turmoil, change, and unrest; at the heart of all things there is undisturbed repose;  in this deep silence dweller the Eternal.

Man partakes of this duality, and both the surface change and disquietude, and the deep-seated eternal abode of Peace, are contained within him.

As there are silent depths in the ocean which the fiercest storm cannot reach, so there are silent, holy deaths in the heart of man which the storms of sin and sorrow can never disturb. To reach this silence and to live consciously in it peace.

Discord is rife in the outward world, but unbroken harmony hold sway at the heart of the universe. The human soul, torn by discordant passion and grief, reaches blindly toward the harmony of the sinless state, and to reach this state and to live consciously in it is peace.

Hatred severs human lives, footers persecution, and hurls nations into ruthless war, yet men, thought they do not understand why, retain some measure of faith in the overshadowing of a perfect Love; and to reach this love and to live consciously in it is peace.

And this inward peace, this silence, this harmony, this love, is the kingdom of Heaven, which is so difficult to reach because few are willing to give up themselves and to become as little children.

“Heaven’s gate is very narrow and minute, it cannot be perceived by foolish men Blinded by vain illusions  of the world; E’en the clear-sighted who discern the way, and seek to enter, find the portal barred, and hard to be unlocked. its massive bolts are pride and passion, avarice and lust.”

Men cry peace! peace! where there is no peace and strife. Apart from self- renunciation, there can be no real and abiding peace.

The peace which results from social comfort, passing gratification, or worldly victory is transitory in its nature, and is burnt up in the heat of fiery trial, and only the selfless heart can know the Peace of Heaven.

Holiness alone is undying peace. Self-control leads to it, and the ever-increasing light of Wisdom guides the pilgrim on his way. It is partaken of in a measure as soon as the path of virtue is entered upon, but it is only realised in its fullness when self disappears in the consummation of a stainless life.

“This is peace,

To conquer love of self and lust of life,

To tear deep-rooted passion from the heart to still the inward strife”.

If, O reader! you would realise the light that never fades, the Joy that never ends, and the tranquillity that cannot be disturbed; if you would leave behind for ever your sins, your sorrows, your anxieties and perplexities; if Isay, you would partake of this salvation, this supremely glorious life, then conquer your-self. Bring every Thought, enery impulse, every desire into perfect obedience to the divine power resident within you. There is no other way to peace but this, and if you refuse to walk it, your much praying and your strict adherence to ritual will be fruitless and unavailing, and neither gods nor angles can help you. Only to him that overcometh is given the whit stone of the regenerate is given the white stone of the regenerate life, on which is written the new and ineffable name.

Come away, for awhile, from external things, from the arguments of the intellect, from the senses, from the arguments of the intellect, from the noise and the excitements of the world, and withdraw yourself into the inmost chamber of your heart, and there, free from the sacrilegious intrusion of all selfish desires, you will find a deep silence, a holy calm, a blissful repose, and if you will rest awhile in that holy place, and will meditate there, the faultless eye of truth walloped within you, and you will see things as they really are, This holy place within you is your real and eternal self; it is the divine within; and only when you identify yourself  with it can you said to be “clothed and in your right mind . “It is the abode of peace, the temple of wisdom, the dwelling- place of immortality. Apart from this inward resting – place this Mount of Vision, there can be no true peace, knowledge of the Divine, and if you can remain there for one minute, one hour, or one day, it is possible for you to remain there always. All your sins and sorrows, your fears and anxieties are your own, and you can cling to them or you can give them up . Of your own accord you cling to your unrest; of your own accord you can come to abiding peace. No one else can give up sin for you; you must give up yourself. You can obtain freedom and peace alone by your own efforts, by yielding up that which binds the soul, and which is destructive of peace.

The angels of divine peace and joy are always at hand, and if you do not see them, and hear them, and dwell with them, it is because you shut yourself out from them, and prefer the company of the spirits of evil within you. You are what you will to be, what you wish to be, what you prefer to be. You can commence to purify yourself, and by so doing can arrive at peace, or you can refuse to purify yourself, and so remain with suffering.

Step aside, then; come out of the fret and the fever life; away from the scorching heat of self, and enter the inward resting-place  where the cooling airs of peace will clam, renew, and restore you.

come out of the storms of sin and anguish. Why be trouble and tempest-tossed when the haven of peace of God is yours!

Give up all self seeking; give up self, and lo! the peace of God your!

Subue the animal within you; conquer every selfish uprising, every discordant voice; transmute the base metals of your selfish nature into the unalloyed gold of love, and you shall realise the life of perfect peace. Thus subduing, thus conquering, thus transiting, you will, O reader! while living in the flesh, cross the dark waters of mortality, and will reach that shore upon which the storms of sorrow never beat, and where sin and suffering and dark uncertainty cannot come. Standing upon that shore, holy, compassionate, awakened, and self-possessed and glad with unending gladness, you will realise that

“Never the  spirit  was born, the Spirit will cease to be never;

Never was time it was not, end and begin nine are dreams;

Birthless and deathless and changeless remained the spirit for ever;

Death hath not touches it at all, dead though the house of it seems you will then know the meaning of sin, of sorrow, of suffering, and that the end there of is wisdom; will know the cause and the issue of existence.

And with this  realisation you will enter into rest, for this os the bliss of immortality, this the unchangeable gladness, this the untrammelled knowledge, undefiled wisdom, and undying love; this and this only, is the realisation of perfect peace.

who wouldst teach men of Truth ! hast passed through the desert of doubt ? Art purged by the fires of sorrow hath ruth .the fiends of opinion cast out of human heart? Is they soul so fair that no false thought can ever harbour there?

o thou wept through the dark night of grief? does it move (now freed from its sorrow and care) thy human heart to pitying gentleness, looking on wrong, and hate and, and ceaseless stress? O thou who wouldst teach men of peace! hast thou crossed the wide oven of strife? hast thou found on the shores of the silence, Release from all the wild unrest of life? from thy human heart hath all striving gone, leaving but truth, and love, and peace alone ?

Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) adversely affects the quality of life in the elderly. Such effects include; sleep disturbances, insomnia, restlessness, excessive daytime sleepiness, nighttime awakening, periodic, leg movements, and snoring. Yoga therefore, comes in as a body and mind intervention used for its therapeutic potential to the elderly.

Studies indicate that American population of roughly 15.8 million, which constitutes 6.9% of her entire population practice different forms if yoga, Moreover, a sizeable proportion still indicates the willingness to take it up in future (Bower, 2010). Thus , yoga is practiced largely across the globe for physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.

Why Yoga is good for Your Health?

The approach of any medical system for elderly woman and men needs to address to the physical, mental, intellectual and spiritual aspects of life. Not satisfied with allopathic medications and the threat of serious side effects ever looming large in their minds, the elderly women and men have begun to use the complementary medical systems as a viable alternative to address to their health problems. including Yoga, physical therapy, diet and aromatherapy

Research suggests that yoga therapy is a viable gentle physical activity option with a variety of health – related quality of life, psychological and physical symptom management benefits. Diet and nutritional therapy on the other hand, has shown solid evidence as an alternative medicine to reduce the symptoms of chronic diseases in elderly population.

How to sleep well

https://anchor.fm/neha-bajpai0/episodes/How-to-sleep-well-e12ui1e

I am sure you do already prepare to sleep however , it is worth mentioning some steps that will enhance and vastly improve your chances of good sleep .

Room temperature is critical , however this can pose some issues for couples, where one partner prefers cooler temperatures against a partner who likes a warm to hot room. So as best you can get the temperaturehow you are most comfortable.

Having a comfortable bed helps , along with the right pillow and height of pillow. it is Important to realise your body knows it needs to rest and sleep , it also knows it needs to be comfortable doing so .Give it what it needs.

Do away with as many electronic devices as possible , their very presence is a distraction ,and as previously said the subconscious mind takes onboard all prompts, good and bad it will do so even while you sleep. Even a stand by light on a tv can emit enough light to distract sleep.

As we have evolved from our distant primitive ancestors who had little extra light after the sun went down, save the light from a fire, the stars and the Moon. It stands to reason we still have the inbuilt ability to turn off when the light naturally fades at the end of the day, just like they did. However, this ability has been sabotaged by Morden living with lighting at the flick of a switch and electronic devices that admit light. So to give your body the best possible chance to rest, turn the lights off, darkness won’t harm you. If required have a small battery torch beside the bed for emergencies.

Don’t eat or drink immediately before retiring  to bed , both food and drink stimulate the body , and this will work against you ;your body will want to act on the introduction of fresh fuel into its system , a glass of water is fine, but cut out all other types of drink for at least an hour before bedtime. Alcohol is not only a stimulant but also a depressant ; many believe it will help them sleep , but in truth it can make good sleep harder

The Unbreakable. Part 1

The auditorium with a seating capacity of four thousand attendees, located at the 18th floor of the India bulls sky Jungle, was occupied upto the last seat, mostly by the investors of the Ayesha Industries, eagerly waiting for the arrival of the MD and chairperson Miss Ayesha Siddique, the room was filled with friendly chatters of the attendees which include, apart form investors, journalists along with some of the top ranking employees and board members of the company, SEBI officials and officials of the state and central ministry of finance.

Chatter kept growing louder and then came the moment every one was waiting for, there was an absolute silence in the auditorium for a few seconds, only to be shattered by the sounds of camera shutters, every one rose to welcome the charismatic tycoon and the poster girl of women empowerment in the country,  Aaisha Siddique with an applause, she stood at the entrance for few seconds, glanced at the packed auditorium and then started walking towards the podium.

Ayesha was unlike any other business tycoon, at 38 she looked no more than 26 or 27, figure of an athlete, 5 feet 8 inches tall, pair of beautiful black eyes, sharp nose, thin lips, dusky complexion, sharp features, her personality was extremely over whelming. She was  a rags to riches story unlike any other, because of her lineage and her meteoric rise from a girl of impoverished background who couldn’t even afford the very basis education, to the tycoon who’s company is valued at around 10 Billion dollars, is loved by both the elite and the underprivileged.

She stepped on to the podium and sat on the boss chair placed at number 4 in the line of 7 chairs, six of the board members took there respective seats later, she glanced at all the board members with a smile, and then she turned on the mike placed on the table facing her.

“I want to thank all of you, for your valuable support and faith in Ayesha Industries, and we all are committed to deliver and excel on your expectations” Ayesha started the annual meet, in the meeting she spoke at length about the performance of the company in the previous year and announced her plans for the current financial year, the attendees were overjoyed to hear the aggressive expansion and CAPEX plan for the current FY and multifold growth projections.

Then came the QnA session, for which many investors and journalists were waiting for, wide range of questions ranging from outlook on textile industry, conduciveness of government policies, socio-economic situation of the country to the climate change and the upcoming US elections, were asked and as usual they got extremely satisfying and insightful replies from the MD.

After three hours, the marathon session came to an end, all the questions, no matter how irrelevant, were answered and as there were no further questions left, Ayesha rose from her chair, followed by all the board members and all the attendees, and started walking down from the podium towards the exit, the applause followed till she entered the lift and the doors of the lift were closed.

Ayesha took out her phone and unlocked it, it was filled with hundreds of unread what’s app messages , she opened the message of the contact named “Jurno Tanvi”, it read “Mam waiting for you in the parking” “coming ” replied Ayesha. Doors of the lift opened as it reached the basement, Ayesha came out of the lift along with her security guards and board members, she exchanged pleasantries with them as her Range Rover approached, she noticed a girl approaching her, “Good evening Ma’am, Tanvi from National Guardian” said the girl chirpily and extended her hand towards Ayesha for a hands shake, Ayesha reciprocated, “please come in” said Ayesha as she entered and sat on the back seta of her Range Rover, Tanvi followed, as the two ladies sat in the car, it started and came out of the parking lot on to the main road, adjacent to the India Bulls sky jungle.

“Mam, I am so excited to meet you today, I am big fan of yours”, said Tanvi seemingly excited, “I am so honoured to be chosen as the writer of your biography” she continued, Ayesha smiled while checking her phone, not looking at Tanvi, “wait for a while Tanvi, let me finish some urgent work” said Ayesha, typing something on her phone, Tanvi waited in anticipation of a response, about 15 minutes later the driver asked “Mam where should we go” “take us to the Angeles” replied Ayesha, driver nodded and then turned the car left, they were now on a narrow and curvy lane, the driver had slowed the car as the rode ahead was quite narrow, the road ended about a kilometre ahead at a large arched iron gate, with a big sign board “Fatima’s home for angles” car stopped at the gate, driver blew the horn and the gates opened automatically, and closed as it entered , it was a very large establishment, spread in acres and looking at its proximity to Mumbai, it must be worth hundreds of millions of dollars, thought Tanvi.

“This is my mother’s dream Tanvi” said Ayesha, Tanvi fully conscious and attentive, responded with a sincere smile, there were a series of rectangular buildings separated from each other by few meters, the space between them was covered by lawn and series of plantations, and then there was a large cylindrical building about 10 story tall, covered with diamond shaped reflecting violet coloured glasses placed in perfect symmetry, giving an illusion to the viewer as if the building is constantly revolving, the building was an aberration to the otherwise low-key structures spread across the premises.

That is FHA “Fatima’s home for Angeles”, we have built one of the most advanced paediatric hospital here, do you see that building, Ayesha pointed towards a 7 storied rectangular building, and behind that building you see that cylindrical building that’s the school and it has one of the best faculties in the country with best in class labs, and library for my angels, behind the school building we have a sports complex, followed by recreation facility with theatre, restaurant and a small amusement park, Tanvi was awestruck to see the infrastructure of that place, it took them about half an hour to reach Ayesha’s office, the building titled administrative block, a relatively sober building.

As the car stopped outside the administrative block, two guards rushed to open the gates of the car for Ayesha and Tanvi, Tanvi followed Ayesha as she entered her office, the office was quite large and airy but it wasn’t very “modern”, it rather had a very vintage appeal, antique paintings on the walls of the room, not a single screen apart from Ayesha’s MacBook placed on the large wooden desk at the far end of the room, in the middle of room there were two sofas facing each other and separated by a beautiful teek wood table, placed adjacent to the wall under a pair of small windows.

“Have a seat”, asked Ayesha, both of them sat on either sofas, Tanvi took the recorder out of her bag, “no recorder please” instructed Ayesha, Tanvi hesitated for a second, but then she put the recorder back in her bag and took out her writing pad and pen, “ok so shall we begin” asked Tanvi, “from where do you want me to start from” asked Ayesha “well  from the beginning” replied Tanvi. “Ok Tanvi, so as you know, my mother Fatima found me in a garbage can, she was a ragpicker and use to live on a footpath near the garbage can, one night she woke up hearing the cries of an infant , she rushed towards the garbage can, and  lifted me out, and immediately took me to a government hospital, I wasn’t well, I was barely a week old, wounded and shivering in fever”.

“The paediatrician of the government hospital was a very kind man, he admitted me and took great care of me, after 7 days I recovered, Fatima stayed with me in the hospital every single minute, and we left the hospital as mother and daughter.” with her savings, she rented a small shanty, and we started our new lives together in it, she named me Ayesha, Fatima then started working as domestic help in a near by residential society, she would leave me at home under the supervision of one of her friends”.

“When I was about three years old, Fatima started taking me along, she would wash the utensils while I would sit in a corner quietly, in one of the houses there was a child of my age, we use to play together and his mother would give me cookies to eat and at times she would teach me how to read and write, she noticed that I would learn alphabets and numbers very fast, she started teaching me, Fatima would leave me at her home in the morning, she would take care of me as if I was her own child, she would feed me, play with me and teach me, she insisted Fatima to admit me in a school, but poor illiterate Fatima, who never set her foot in a school before, was petrified by the idea, but she loved me so very much that she took me to a government school and admitted me in the first standard”.

“In the morning she would take me with her for work, we would eat whatever we get in those houses, in the afternoon she would take me to the school, my school timings were 2:00 to 5:00 PM, my mother would sit outside my class, on the stairs and would peek inside the classroom every now and then, just to be sure that I was ok”, there was spark in Ayesha’s eyes when ever she took her mother’s name, Tanvi could sense the bond of affection between them.

“I was about 14 years old and in 10th standard, one day I was waiting outside the school for Fatima to come, as she would always come beforetime and we would go together, I was surprised as she didn’t turned up that day, I was worried as I had this strange feeling that some thing isn’t right, so I started walking towards home, as I reached the alley near my home, I saw a small crowd gathered out side out shanty, I dropped my school bag and ran towards the home, Fatima was lying on the bad surrounded by women from the neighbourhood, I held her hand and asked her what happened, she was unconscious, neighbours told me that they found her unconscious lying on the floor about an hour back”.

“They had called an ambulance about an hour back but it hasn’t arrived yet, It came about 10 minutes later, the doctor checked her pulse and then the ambulance staff put her on a stretcher and got her into the ambulance, I was with her in the ambulance, doctor told me that Fatima has suffered a stroke, I was crestfallen didn’t know what to do, she was admitted in the ICU ward for about a week, and then shifted to a general word.

“We remained in the hospital for about two weeks and then she was discharged and I brought her home on a wheelchair, we were devastated, Fatima would cry day and night and I would console her, she couldn’t walk or do anything her self, she needed therapy and we desperately needed money, so I went to meet Prashant Ji, he was the owner of one of the homes where Fatima use to work as a maid, we went to the a factory where he use to work as floor supervisor, he introduced me to Mr. Paresh Nathan, manager in the accounts section, there was no vacancy in the factory which barely made any profits in the last 6 months, he however was looking for an assistant but I wasn’t qualified for that job, more over I was a minor, and it is against government norms to recruit a minor, but I insisted rather bagged him for that job at half the salary, because of Prashant Ji’s personal recommendation, I got the job in Roshan Textiles Industries as assistant to accounts manager.

My initial salary was six thousand rupees a month, that was about twice to what Fatima was earning, the first thing I did was that I hired a full time maid cum cook for Fatima, she would come to my house at around 7:30 in the morning and stay till 8 PM, I had instructed her, never to leave my mother alone.

“I was a quick learner and an avid reader, though I had to quit the school but the teachers were kind enough to lend me books on accounting from the school library, I learnt accounting by my self, I would come to the office at around 8:00 AM, an hour early, and would read all the newspapers, economic times, times of India even the regional papers, I was very curious and absolutely in awe of the machines in the factory, I read all the manuals available in the factory, would discuss with the technicians  about the functioning of the machines, would also discuss with them about what kind of machineries being used in other industries, or by our competitors”.

“By the time I was 17, I had earned a reputation of an allrounder, I would fill-in many shoes, an accounts manager in the absence of Mr.Nathan, production manager, logistics and even trainer for the new recruits, I loved my work, but I had the habit of asking too many questions, at times my questions would make my fellow workers uncomfortable”

Ayesha smiled and paused for a second, drank some water, and continued again, “Mr.Nathan resigned from the company and I became the accounts manager, now I had the access to most powerful tool in the world, the internet, my passion and love for machines was at a whole new level, I read, whatever I could find about the latest textile machinery and about the leaders in the textile space”.

“We were incurring losses not because of the market or anything beyond our control, but because of sheer incompetency and mismanagement”, said Ayesha, “I raised alarm many times but all in vain, MD won’t read my mails, neither he would give me time to meet him nor he would remotely try to mend the culture of the company”.

“Finally one day our MD asked us all to come in the common hall at around 8:00 PM, he had to make a very important announcement, we were all prepared for the worst and we were right in our anticipation, MD Mr.Rajesh Nathani introduced us to his son Mr.Niraj Nathani, he was a young man in his twenties, dapper and handsome, “Harvard” written all over his face”, Tanvi chuckled, Ayesha smiled and continued  “but I could clearly make out that he wasn’t happy being there, I still remember each and every word he said that evening,” Ayesha stood up and started strolling in the room “brothers, he then took a pause, and continued, you are my family, and I have immense respect and gratitude for all of you, you have given your sweat and blood to this company, he then took a pause again this time to clear his throat, and said in a trembling voice, as you all know that our company is making losses since last 2 years, we tried every thing in our control to sustain but now with great sorrow I have to convey to you, that we have no other option but to close the factory, I looked at the faces of the terrified workers around me, there fear gave me strength and I shouted  at the top of my voice “but we can save our company sir” “Mr.Nathani wasn’t prepared for that”, “who was that” he said looking at the audience, I rose my hand and started walking towards him, as I stood in front of him, I introduced my self and said “sir with all due respect, we can still save the company, “may I know how”, it was Niraj MD’s son, he had a big question mark on his face and hope in his eyes, sir I have prepared a presentation for you, and would like to show it to you, our MD was shellshocked, he wasn’t prepared for anything like this and he didn’t wanted to create a Scene in front of a very anxious audience, he simply said sure, so I started walking towards my cabin and MD and his son followed, there were 500 people mostly men in that place but there was pin drop silence, the only sound in that hall that time was the noise our shoes made while we crossed the crowd.”

“I explained them in detail what exactly was going wrong in the company and how it can be fixed, the MD was part surprised part abashed to realise how negligent he was, Niraj was asking questions, he was keen to know more about my ideas of revamping the company, at that time we were defaulting on the interest payments to the bank, our order book was empty, for the last six months we were without work and we weren’t even trying to get any business, as if we wanted the disaster to happen, now coming to the solution, I showed them the map of the factory, if we do the realignment of the factory by shifting the godown towards the main unit by 500 meters, we will unlock 650 square meters of land located right next to India’s largest upcoming residential projects, if we sell this land, we will have enough money, not only to clear our dues, but we can even replace these obsolete machines with the modern once! the father and son duo were spellbound, they went through the entire presentation, it was 1:00 AM in the night when I concluded the presentation, only a handful of employees were still in the factory waiting for us”.

“Niraj invited me to his home next day on breakfast, he sent his car to pick me up, I agreed, the car came to pick me at 8:30 AM, I reached there bungalow at 9:00,  we had a quite breakfast and then they offered me the position of CEO in the company, but I was clearly told that I have to walk the walk now, and I delivered more then what they anticipated, I renovated the building structure of the factory in a month, I shifted the godown and also reduced it in size, removed the pantry and also shrieked the main production unit because the new machinery which I had planned would need fewer space then the machines we were using then, I carved out a prime piece of real estate, about 700 square meters in area”.

“The land was sold at a record prise, we not only paid the overdue interest to the bank but also a sizeable principal also. That was not all, the same year central government, to promote the textile manufacturing, introduced the subsidy scheme, we were one of the first to to cease the opportunity, we imported the latest rapier looms from China, It was a double gain for us, as it was a bulk order, I negotiated hard on the prising and maintenance and enjoyed 20% subsidy on the final cost of the machinery”.

“We were back in the game, with new machines and capital, we restarted our company with new rigour and zeal, I was so excited with the success we got, I became famous in the fraternity, we had now shifted to a large flat located in a posh Mumbai locality, Fatima was showing signs of improvement, she could now communicate through signs and broken words”.

“I approached our erstwhile clients, initially they were very sceptical, some of them had burned there fingers wile working with us, but I was able to convince few of them to give us another chance, I convinced one of my former clients to visit the factory, and he was very impressed, the very next day he gave us the order with 30% advance. We delivered the goods before time and our quality was of a very different league, we made a paltry profit though but we knew that rebuilding the brand wouldn’t be easy. Soon my machines were running at 100% capacity, 24 hours a day in three shifts, we were making some serious money now,” Ayesha was smiling and then she continued “we first repaid the smaller unsecured business loans of higher rate of interest and then the loans of higher tenure.” “We were debt free in two years,” Ayesha smiled as if her mind dwelling in the past.

“I knew we were ready to take the next step, I flew to America and started chasing prospect clients, and I hit the jackpot, I secured an order worth 5 million USD, but we lacked the capacity to deliver it, so I proposed raising funds by listing our company in the stock market, but that was a lengthy process, so I proposed fund raising from strategic investors “parallelly” , our company was in profits, we had orders from US, investors lined up, we raised 7 million dollars by diluting 2% stack, I spearheaded the renovation, we removed the steel fabricated shed of our factory and added two more concrete floors, we did the same to our godown, we added new machines and ramped up the production capacity by 3 folds”.

“I was working like a possessed woman, I worked for 18-19 and some days 20 hours a day, Fatima was the only one genuinely proud of me and happy to see my growth” “Ayesha, ah sorry to interrupt, but there is one thing which I don’t understand, the name of the company was Roshan Industries, how dose it became Ayesha Industries”? asked Tanvi, “Patience princess” replied Ayesha, she smiled and continued “I became the de facto owner of the factory, much respected and much feared than the MD or his son, off late they felt and seemed miserable with the kind of pace and efficiency I was working with, look Tanvi Mr.Rajesh Nathani never built the factory or the company, it was his father who did, both him and his son were born with a silver spoon, they never had the capability nor the guts to take the company to newer heights, they were simply enjoying the fruits of the hard work of other people, they felt threatened by me, there hollow egos couldn’t bear my accomplishments, I pulled the company from the brink of dissolution, to become one of the best textile manufacturers in the country, so one day they called me to there office and fired me” “what ” Tanvi shouted in complete awe, “don’t be shocked my dear, the only thing constant in this world is irony” Ayesha got up and stood beside the window, she slides the curtain to face the evening breeze, there was absolute silence in the room, Ayesha seemed to have gone in a different time, Tanvi watching her intently, admiring Ayesha’s strength and her unbreakable resolve….
